101 Embossed Felt – What lies within the Centre?

Project Size: 35cm x 1.4m

In this class, you will learn wet felting and embossing techniques using paj silk fabric, the use of resists and hand laying of flat felt base fibre to make solid wool felt fabric. We will work with black and white only for this project.

Students will learn to lay out fine, even felts to use embossing techniques to raise the surface. Skills in using a variety of resists will also be taught. Students will combine wool and silk fibre to complete a beautiful, stylish, light-weight felted scarf. The work can be machined or hand embroidered after class.

Kit Cost: AU$59
The kit contains all materials needed to make the project. A variety of colourways will be available.

Wendy Bailye is a well-known and imaginative, award winning, Australian contemporary felt artisan, designer and tutor who has been making felt for nearly 25years. She uses an eclectic mix of wool fibres, fabrics, silks, threads and recycled materials, to produce fibre-rich artworks and wearables.

102 Casalguidi Sea Change Panel

Project Size: 13x18cm

This workshop is an introduction to Casalguidi raised embroidery techniques, with a modern interpretation of traditional Casalguidi stitching. Stiches include detached chain, buttonhole bars, padded needlelace, needlewoven bars and wrapped cords.

You will complete a selected marine motif which you will work on a pulled work background, to create a two-part panel. A number of colourways will be provided. The background will need to be worked before the class and full instructions for this will be provided.

This fresh, modern project is suitable for embroiderers learning a new technique and the completed panel does not require much finishing.

Kit Cost: $28 for the full kit or $4 for colour notes and provide own materials
Students will have a choice of marine motifs and one will be completed in class.

Shirley Pygott enjoys using traditional techniques and materials in new and innovative ways, she especially likes using metal thread, surface stitch and needle lace. Shirley has tutored and exhibited widely for several years and has been the recipient of many awards.

103 Playing with Stitch

Learn how to use scale, direction and layering in your surface stitching.

We all get stuck in a rut in how we stitch. This workshop is designed to get you out of the rut and to play with the stitches you use all the time so that you can create a fun stitch sampler.

Kit Cost: Nil, no kit is provided.

Jo Dixey is a well-known embroiderer and Stitch Artist. She has had many commissions, and has taught and exhibited widely, throughout New Zealand and Australia, for both embroidery and quilting.

104 Nuno Felted Floral Scarf with 3D Centres

In this class, you will learn wet felting, nuno felting, embellishment with fibres and threads and 3D additions to a flat surface to produce a stylish lightweight scarf on a fine silk georgette base. Students will learn about texture and design for a successful finished product. The scarf and be beaded and further embellished.

106 #Stitchplay

Level: All Levels, 12 years and over
Project size: 18x18cm

Many surface embroidery stitches can be played with to create a totally different look to what you expect. In this class, you will be playing with stitches and will then see where they lead you.

No knowledge of stitches is required as Jo will teach you the basics; just bring a sense of fun.

Kit Cost: Nil
This class has a $40 discount on the class fee, available for full time students between 12 and 18 years old
